Free Manufacturing Job Traveler Template (Excel)
What's in the job traveler
The Job Header sheet holds the job's client, part number and quantity, filled in once per job.
The Routing Steps sheet holds up to 50 steps, one row each: operation, machine, setup time, run time per unit, operator, status and date completed. Total time per step - setup time plus run time times the job quantity - calculates automatically, pulling the quantity straight from the Job Header sheet.
The Job Header sheet also shows the percent of routing steps completed, calculated live from the Status column on the Routing Steps sheet, plus a summary of steps logged, steps completed and total routing time.
A working spreadsheet, not a PDF form
Most job traveler results online are generic fillable-PDF form generators (CocoDoc, DocHub) - you type into form fields, but nothing calculates. The one real Excel template in the results (metisautomation.co.uk) comes from a UK automation blog with a basic layout and no US-market presence.
This template calculates total time per routing step automatically from setup time, run time and job quantity - no manual multiplication per step - and tracks percent complete live as you update each step's status.
It keeps one job's full routing history, quantity and completion status in a single linked workbook instead of a stack of paper travelers.
Who this traveler is for
Machine shops and small manufacturers who want a job's routing steps, timing and completion status in one file that travels with the job through the shop.
It tracks one job at a time in this workbook - it doesn't manage a multi-job shop schedule, machine capacity, or lot/serial-level traceability across jobs.
How to use it
- Fill in the Job Header sheet once: client, part number and quantity.
- Log each routing step on the Routing Steps sheet: operation, machine, setup time, run time per unit, operator, status and date.
- Total time per step calculates automatically, and the Job Header sheet shows the live percent of steps completed.

Frequently asked questions
How is total time per step calculated?
Setup time plus run time per unit, multiplied by the job quantity entered on the Job Header sheet - update the quantity once and every step's total time recalculates.
What counts toward percent complete?
Only rows where Status is exactly "Complete." Rows marked "In Progress" count toward total steps logged but not toward the completion percentage.
Can I track more than one job in this file?
This workbook is built for one job at a time - the Job Header and Routing Steps sheets both apply to a single job. For a new job, use a fresh copy of the file.
Can I use this in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the downloaded file to Google Drive, then open it and choose File > Save as Google Sheets. The total time and percent-complete formulas keep working.
How many routing steps can I log?
Up to 50 steps on the Routing Steps sheet, with a summary of steps logged, steps completed and total routing time.
What's the usage license?
