Free Operational Readiness Checklist Template

This free operational readiness checklist logs pre-launch tasks by domain (HR, Equipment, Supplies, Compliance, IT, Facilities) with an owner, due date and status. Each task flags OVERDUE automatically once its due date passes without being marked Complete. The summary shows overall readiness % plus a separate readiness % per domain. Works in Excel and Google Sheets, up to 80 tasks.

What's in the Operational Readiness template

The Readiness Checklist sheet holds one row per task, up to 80, with domain, task description, status, responsible person and due date.

An overdue flag calculates automatically: once a task's due date has passed and it isn't marked Complete, the row reads OVERDUE.

The summary below the table shows your overall readiness % (completed tasks divided by all tasks logged) plus a separate readiness % for each domain - HR, Equipment, Supplies, Compliance and IT - calculated with COUNTIFS.

Why readiness % is broken out by domain, not just overall

A single overall readiness percentage can hide a lagging domain - your overall score might read 80% complete while Compliance sits at 20%, and you'd never know from the top-line number alone.

Because each domain's readiness % is its own formula, you can see immediately which workstream is behind before a go-live date, rather than discovering it during a final walkthrough.

Domain and status are both dropdown lists, so every rollup formula keeps matching correctly as you add or reassign tasks - no rollup silently breaks from a mistyped category.

Who this template is for

Operations managers preparing to open a new site or installation - a retail location, a warehouse, a clinic, a restaurant - who need to track staffing, equipment, supplies and compliance sign-off in one place before go-live.

It's a pre-launch checklist, not an ongoing operations dashboard - use it in the weeks before opening, then archive it once every domain reads 100% ready.

How to use it

  1. List every pre-launch task on the Readiness Checklist sheet with its domain, owner and due date.
  2. Update status to Complete as tasks finish - the overdue flag and readiness % update automatically.
  3. Check the summary below the table for overall readiness % and readiness % by domain.

Quality & Audit Pack

The Compliance domain here is just a status dropdown alongside HR, Equipment, Supplies and IT - there's no document tracking behind it. The paid Quality & Audit Pack ($49) adds a 150-document Document Control Register that computes each document's next-review date from its review interval and flags what's due, plus a 60-risk Quality Risk Register if pre-launch compliance gaps need formal risk scoring. Both build in Excel and Google Sheets, tested to the cent.

Frequently asked questions

How does the overdue flag work?

Once a task's due date has passed and its status isn't Complete, the row flags OVERDUE automatically. Tasks marked Complete never show an overdue flag, regardless of due date.

How is readiness % calculated per domain?

Completed tasks in that domain divided by all tasks logged in that domain, using COUNTIFS. A domain with no tasks yet shows blank rather than a misleading 0%.

Can I add my own domains?

The dropdown ships with HR, Equipment, Supplies, Compliance, IT and Facilities - you can edit the list to match your own workstreams if needed.

Can I use this in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the downloaded file to Google Drive, then open it and choose File > Save as Google Sheets. All formulas and flags keep working.

How many tasks can I track?

Up to 80 rows across all domains combined.

What's the usage license?

Personal use or use within one business. It's not meant to be resold or redistributed as a template product.
