What's in the sales commission tracker

The file has two sheets. Commission Log holds up to 200 deals, one row each, with the rep, deal or client name, close date, revenue, commission rate, and pay period.

Draws & Adjustments tracks up to 50 draws, clawbacks, and bonuses per rep separately from the deal log, with a date, type, amount, and note for each one.

This separation matters for payroll: the Commission Log tells you what each rep earned from deals, and the Draws sheet tells you what's already been advanced or needs to be recovered — you net the two together at payout time.

How the rate workflow actually works

This tracker doesn't look up a commission tier automatically — you enter the rate that applies for each deal directly into the Commission Log. If your company uses tiered rates (say 5% up to a revenue threshold, 7% above it), you apply the tier that specific deal earned and type that rate in.

This keeps the sheet simple and transparent: every commission amount traces back to a rate you consciously entered, rather than a lookup formula you'd need to audit if a rep questioned their payout. It's the right fit if your plan has a handful of tiers you can apply by eye, rather than a complex multi-variable comp plan.

What calculates automatically

Commission per deal multiplies revenue by the rate you entered, the moment both are filled in. Each rep's YTD total sums every commission entry for that rep up to and including the current row, so you can see a rep's running total without a separate pivot table.

The summary block totals revenue and commissions across everyone, plus the effective commission rate for the whole team — useful for checking your overall commission expense against plan.

Tracking draws and clawbacks

Draws & Adjustments is where you log any advance paid against future commissions, any clawback recovered from a cancelled or refunded deal, and any bonus outside the normal commission structure — each with its own date and amount.

The summary totals draws and clawbacks separately, which you subtract from a rep's commission total to arrive at what's actually owed at payout — the tracker gives you both halves of that calculation in one file.

How to use it

  1. Log each closed deal with its revenue and the commission rate that applies.
  2. Commission per deal and each rep's running total calculate automatically.
  3. Track draws in the Draws sheet and net them against commissions at payout time.

Yes. You give an email address to download it, and then it's yours to use with no further cost.

Does it apply tiered commission rates automatically?

No. You enter the rate that applies for each deal — this keeps the calculation transparent and auditable, but it means you or the rep need to apply the correct tier per deal.
