Free Manufacturing KPI Template (Excel)

This free manufacturing KPI template logs planned time, downtime, units produced, ideal rate and scrap per line or machine run, then calculates availability %, performance %, quality % and OEE (their product) automatically. The summary rolls up average OEE plus total downtime and scrap across every run. Works in Excel and Google Sheets, up to 60 runs.

What's in the Manufacturing KPI template

The Line KPI Log sheet holds one row per line/machine run, up to 60, with date, line/machine name, planned production time, downtime, units produced, ideal rate (units per hour), and units scrapped.

Four calculated columns turn those inputs into the standard OEE components: availability % (run time divided by planned time), performance % (actual output divided by ideal output at that rate), quality % (good units divided by total units), and OEE itself - the product of all three.

Rows are flagged: below 60% OEE is marked in red, 85%+ (the commonly cited 'world class' threshold) is marked in green, so weak runs stand out immediately.

The OEE formula this template calculates automatically

OEE = Availability x Performance x Quality. Most manufacturing KPI templates you can download for free show you a dashboard with an OEE number on it, but not the formula that produced it or the three components you'd need to improve.

This template exposes each component as its own column, calculated from numbers you already track - planned time, downtime, output, and scrap - so you can see whether a bad OEE run was a downtime problem, a speed problem, or a quality problem, not just a single blended score.

Who this template is for

Plant managers, production supervisors, and continuous-improvement leads at small and mid-size manufacturers who want OEE tracking without buying a full MES/OEE software platform.

It's a manual log, not a machine-connected data feed - built for teams that record downtime and output by shift or by run, not by automatic sensor telemetry.

How to use it

  1. Log each run on the Line KPI Log sheet: planned time, downtime, units produced, ideal rate and scrap.
  2. Availability %, performance %, quality % and OEE calculate automatically for every row.
  3. Check the summary below the table for average OEE, total downtime and total scrap across all runs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the OEE formula used here?

OEE = Availability x Performance x Quality. Availability is run time (planned time minus downtime) divided by planned time; performance is actual units divided by (run time x ideal rate); quality is good units divided by total units produced.

What counts as a 'world class' OEE score?

85% or higher is the commonly cited world-class benchmark in manufacturing - rows at or above it are flagged green, and rows below 60% are flagged red.

Does this connect to my machines or SCADA system?

No. This is a manual log - you enter planned time, downtime, output and scrap yourself per run. It doesn't pull data automatically from equipment sensors.

Can I use this in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the downloaded file to Google Drive, then open it and choose File > Save as Google Sheets. All formulas keep working.

How many runs can I log?

Up to 60 rows across your lines/machines. Add a Line/Machine name per row so you can filter or sort by which line a run belongs to.

What's the usage license?
