What's in the product launch plan template

The Launch Checklist sheet holds up to 60 tasks tagged by Phase (Pre-launch / Launch week / Post-launch), with Owner, Due Date and Status columns. Two counters below the list total how many tasks are marked Done and what percent of the checklist is complete, both calculated automatically from the Status column.

The Messaging & Launch Date sheet is a second tab in the same file: set a Launch Date and see Days to Launch count down automatically, then fill in your Promise (what the product does), Pain Point (what it solves) and Proof Point (the data or testimonial backing it up).

Both the checklist and the messaging block live in one workbook - you don't need a separate strategy document and a separate task tracker.

Phased checklist and launch countdown

Tagging every task by phase lets you filter or sort the checklist to see just what's due before launch, what's happening in launch week itself, and what follow-up work comes after.

The percent-complete counter divides tasks marked Done by all tasks that currently have a status set, so it reflects real progress on the tasks you've actually started planning - not the full 60-row capacity of the sheet.

Who this template is for

Product managers and small marketing teams running a launch who want the task checklist and the core positioning/messaging in the same file, instead of juggling a separate doc for messaging and a separate spreadsheet for tasks.

It's a planning tool - use it to organize your launch tasks and lock your messaging, then carry the results into your team's project tool or slide deck for wider distribution.

How to use it

  1. List every launch task on the Launch Checklist sheet with its phase, owner, due date and status.
  2. Watch tasks-done and percent-complete update automatically as you change Status.
  3. On the Messaging & Launch Date sheet, set your launch date and fill in your promise, pain point and proof point - Days to Launch counts down on its own.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an ungated download?

Yes. It's a direct .xlsx download with no contact-information form required first.

How is percent complete calculated?

Tasks marked Done divided by all tasks that currently have any status set (Done, In progress or Not started) - it updates the moment you change a Status cell.

Does the messaging block replace a full positioning document?

No. It captures your core promise, pain point and proof point in one place next to your task checklist - useful as a quick reference, not a replacement for a full positioning brief.

How many tasks can the checklist hold?

60 rows out of the box across the three launch phases. Extend the row range if you need more.

Can I use this in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the file to Google Drive and choose File > Save as Google Sheets - the counters and countdown keep working.
