What's in the product roadmap template
The workbook has three tabs. Roadmap is an 80-row log: one row per initiative, with theme, feature description, quarter, status, owner and priority.
Quarter Rollup and Theme Rollup each automatically calculate total items, shipped count, in-progress count, and percent shipped - one rolled up by quarter, the other by theme - both updating live as you add or change rows on the Roadmap sheet.

Smartsheet and Microsoft both ship genuine downloadable roadmap templates, but every one is a static, formula-free timeline grid - you color-code cells by hand and there's no automatic status or progress rollup anywhere in the file.
This template calculates percent shipped by quarter and by theme automatically from the Status column - no manual counting, no separate summary you build yourself after the fact.
How the quarter and theme rollups calculate
Total items per quarter or theme uses COUNTIF against the Roadmap sheet's Quarter or Theme column. Shipped count adds a second condition on Status using COUNTIFS, and percent shipped divides shipped by total, IFERROR-protected against an empty quarter or theme.
Keep your Quarter and Theme entries spelled exactly as in the dropdown lists (Q1-Q4, and the five preset themes) - the rollups match on exact text, so a typo silently drops that row from its rollup.
Who this template is for
Product managers and small product teams who need a shared view of what's planned, in progress, and shipped by quarter and by theme, without a Gantt chart or a paid roadmapping tool.
This tracks status and timing by quarter, not day-level scheduling or dependencies - if you need a visual Gantt timeline with drag-and-drop bars, that's a different category of tool.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a Gantt chart?
No. It's a status-and-quarter roadmap with automatic rollups by quarter and theme - it doesn't draw a visual timeline bar or dependency arrows per item.
How is percent shipped calculated?
Shipped count (COUNTIFS on quarter or theme plus status) divided by total count (COUNTIF), IFERROR-protected so an empty quarter or theme shows blank instead of an error.
Can I use this in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the downloaded file to Google Drive, then open it and choose File > Save as Google Sheets. The quarter and theme rollups keep working.
Is there a limit on how many initiatives I can log?
The Roadmap sheet has 80 rows built in. Add more rows and copy the formulas down if you need more.
Can I add my own themes or quarters?
Yes, but the theme and quarter values must match exactly between the Roadmap sheet's dropdown and the rollup sheet's row labels, or that row won't be counted.
What's the usage license?
Personal use or use within one business. It's not meant to be resold or redistributed as a template product.
