Free Project Handover Checklist Template
What's in the Project Handover Checklist template
The Handover Checklist sheet comes pre-filled with four categories - Documentation, Access & Credentials, Training, Support handoff - as a starting point; add your own items under each, up to 60 rows.
Each item has an owner, a due date and a status. An overdue flag calculates automatically: once a due date passes without the item marked Complete, the row reads OVERDUE.
The summary below the table shows overall % complete plus a separate % complete for each of the four categories, calculated with COUNTIFS, and a count of items currently overdue.
One checklist for handover and go-live
A project handover checklist and a go-live checklist ask almost the same underlying question - has everything been transferred and signed off before the team walks away - so this template covers both instead of splitting them into two separate files.
The four categories map directly onto a go-live sign-off: documentation delivered, access and credentials transferred, end-user training completed, and support arrangements in place. If you were searching for a go-live checklist specifically, this is the same template.
Category is a dropdown, so every per-category % complete rollup in the summary stays accurate as items get added or reassigned.
Who this template is for
Project managers, consultants and agencies closing out a project and transferring ownership to an internal team, a client, or an operations group.
It's a sign-off checklist for the handover moment itself - use our project status report or website development project plan templates to manage the project while it's still in progress.
How to use it
- Add your handover items under the pre-filled Documentation/Access & Credentials/Training/Support handoff categories.
- Assign an owner and due date, and update status as items finish - the overdue flag calculates automatically.
- Check the summary below the table for overall % complete, % complete by category, and overdue items.

Project Management Pack
The Training and Support handoff categories here are checklist items with an owner and a due date - there's no way to schedule the actual handoff conversations or tell which stakeholder needs the high-touch treatment. The paid Project Management Pack ($24) has a Communication Plan workbook that auto-classifies 50 stakeholders on a power/interest grid and schedules 60 communications with next-due dates, a better fit for running the handoff conversations this checklist only flags as line items. Both build in Excel and Google Sheets, tested to the cent.

Is this the same as a go-live checklist?
Yes. This checklist absorbs go-live checklist intent - the four categories (docs, access, training, support) are exactly what a go-live sign-off needs to confirm.
How does the overdue flag work?
Once an item's due date has passed and its status isn't Complete, the row flags OVERDUE automatically. Items marked Complete never show an overdue flag.
How is % complete calculated per category?
Items marked Complete in that category, divided by all items logged in that category, using COUNTIFS.
Can I use this in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the downloaded file to Google Drive, then open it and choose File > Save as Google Sheets. All formulas and flags keep working.
How many items can I track?
Up to 60 rows across all four categories combined.
What's the usage license?
Personal use or use within one business. It's not meant to be resold or redistributed as a template product.
