Free Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) Template (Excel)
What's in the S&OP template
One tab, S&OP Plan, holds up to 24 months: demand forecast, production plan, available capacity, and a beginning-inventory figure you enter once on the first row.
Capacity gap (capacity minus production plan) and projected inventory calculate automatically every month - inventory carries forward from the prior month's projected balance plus production minus demand.
The summary below the table totals demand forecast and production plan across the whole period, and counts how many months are flagged OVER CAPACITY.
A rolling monthly view, not a static worksheet
Most S&OP content available for free is guidance and process explanation, not a downloadable file - and the few templates that exist are usually single-month snapshots you have to duplicate and re-link by hand every period.
Here, projected inventory is a genuine cascade: enter beginning inventory once, and every following month calculates from the prior month's ending balance automatically, the way an actual S&OP model should roll forward.
Who this template is for
Operations and demand planners running a monthly S&OP cadence for a single product line who need demand, supply and capacity reconciled on one sheet rather than three disconnected trackers.
This tracks one product family per copy of the sheet - duplicate the tab (or the file) if you run S&OP across several product families side by side.
How to use it
- Enter demand forecast, production plan and capacity for each month, plus beginning inventory on the first row only.
- Capacity gap and projected inventory calculate automatically and carry forward month to month.
- Check the summary below the table for total demand, total production, and months over capacity.

Frequently asked questions
Does projected inventory carry forward automatically each month?
Yes. Enter beginning inventory once on the first row - every following month's projected inventory calculates from the prior month's balance plus production minus demand.
How is a month flagged as over capacity?
Capacity gap is capacity minus production plan. A negative gap - production plan exceeding available capacity - flags OVER CAPACITY.
How many months does it cover?
Up to 24 rows, one per month, roughly two years of monthly S&OP cycles.
Can I track multiple product families?
This sheet tracks one product family. Duplicate the tab, or the whole file, for each additional product family you run S&OP on.
Can I use this in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the downloaded file to Google Drive, then open it and choose File > Save as Google Sheets.
